How It Works
On Wednesdays we open our doors to provide free food bags to anyone who needs them. We offer a variety of kitchen staples and fresh ingredients, all dependent on the donations we have received that week.
Come along from 10:00am for free tea, coffee and biscuits before we begin handing out bags from 12:30-2:00pm. You will receive a basic bag which is the same for everyone, and you can then add to it from the choice of fresh ingredients we have received in donations.
Although you do not have to stand in a queue, there can be a wait for fresh food, and we appreciate your patience while our volunteers work to assess donations and supplies.
If it is your first visit, please let a volunteer know and they can explain the system and answer any questions you might have.
We operate without referrals; if you need us, we are here - no questions asked!
Questions?
-
No, Laurence’s Larder is strictly non-referral, you can just turn up on Wednesday morning.
-
You won’t have to queue outside, you can sit inside and have a free cup of tea or coffee.
When you arrive you can register your name on the clipboard - this is your place in the “queue” - so you can leave and come back later. You can always take a “basic” bag of essential items straight away, but if you’d like fresh items there will be a wait until after 12:30.
-
No, please come in person on Wednesday, we operate on a first-come-first-served basis. All basic food bags are the same, and we strive to have enough fresh items for everyone.
-
The basic food bag will contain staples such as pasta or rice, tuna, baked beans, protein bars or biscuits, long life milk and vegetable soup.
Additional items vary from week to week, but examples of what else we offer are: fresh fruit and vegetables, chopped tomatoes, lentils or pulses, cereals, yoghurt, ready meals, dessert, tea, coffee, bread, soft drinks.
Please note that these extras are dependent on donations so can vary greatly and are not guaranteed.
-
Yes we can, please let a volunteer know and we will arrange a “non cook” bag for you.
-
We are sometimes able to give out toiletries, it is dependent on supplies.
-
We do receive donations of dog and cat food, although we have limited supplies, please let a volunteer know and we will provide you with pet food.
-
On arrival please let us know if you have children, we will try to provide additional food for children and age appropriate products.
-
On arrival please let us know, we do occasionally have nappies and baby food. For help with supplies for your baby please visit your local baby bank.
-
Sorry, we are not able to offer a delivery service.
